The WHS Teen Leadership Program
The WHS’ new Teen Leadership Program is an incredible opportunity for youths who want to make a real difference for animals. The Winnipeg Humane Society is seeking exceptional teens (ages 16-19) that have a passion for animals to apply.

The objectives of the program are as follows:
- To train teens in the areas of communication, fundraising, time management, and leadership styles.
- To allow teens to actively participate in the community and pass their skills and values on to other teens through volunteerism and fundraising events.
- To empower teens by giving them the tools and support to develop projects which inform, educate and raise funds for The Winnipeg Humane Society.
- To promote the volunteer ethic among teens, which includes serving as ambassadors for furthering WHS youth development.
The group will attend monthly meetings starting with an orientation in December 2009 and ending in June 2010. Meetings will include special guest speakers and opportunities to take on creative projects and participate in fundraising events for the WHS.
Participants learn important character building concepts and address the needs of the community, all while practicing leadership, presentation and communication skills. The group will operate as a WHS Youth Committee, discussing animal issues currently affecting the shelter while exploring what they can do to help. Participants who have demonstrated growth and leadership skills will be asked to return as mentors in the next program year.
